A Journey is more than on the button movement from one place to another. It is about learning and growth. Forrest Gump is a classic example for a related text which can emphasise the theme of exile: displaced individuals. Skrzynecki writes about the loneliness of being an immigrant, and Forrest is simply all all after his mothers death.
He fears to settle down because his true love is out running around destroying her manner coming and going from Forrest as she pleases. Every time he leaves his home town, he is cut off from his life just as Skrzynecki is when he leaves Germany to immigrate to Australia. Along the way, Forrest and Peter slang the world in completely different eyes to any other traveller, because of their backgrounds and what they want to achieve in life: to get together in. The difference is Peter knows where he is going to end up; his predetermined future can be seen in his poem Immigrants at Central Station.
