This gives suspense to the reader to see the outcome of their reuniting. Eighteen years the repetition of this selection stresses importance. The modifier: eighteen, in the subtext is a symbol for wasted time. The man questions if he can be reborn back into life. The savor changes in this passage, the diction in the beginning shows death, ghastliness of their worn out and wasted state when you define the term ghastliness: revulsion and fear. The subtext characterized the man, who has just been reborn from being buried for eighteen years.
